Description:
BMW 320D SE tourer. 2002, E46.
The car is on 153k miles. This is the SE model, and has cruise control, electric sunroof, steering wheel stereo controls etc. Prior to my ownership, the common issues of swirl flap failure, and breather issues were taken care of - the swirl flaps have been removed and blanked, and a OEM vortex style breather has also been installed.
Excellent car to drive, and very good on fuel (computer claims 70mpg on long runs)
Well looked after, with a plenty of recent maintenance completed, including:
- New radiator and main thermostat (The old radiator was sagging due to age, so was replaced)
- Control arms, drop links and control arms (No ball joint play in the steering)
- All glow plugs.
- All 4 wheel bearings
- Handbrake assemblies replaced (common wear item for these cars)
- New brake discs and pads all round
- Inlet manifold removed and cleaned on taking ownership.
- The previous owner fitted a new dual mass flywheel, clutch and prop bearing shortly before I took ownership (receipt included)
- MOT till July 2018
- 16 inch alloy wheels, all tyres are 5mm+ tread
2 keys, and original manuals included.
- Full service completed 09/03/2018
- Tow bar mount in place, and tow ball included.
- The car has never had a DPF fitted from the factory, so will not be subject to more stringent emission testing rules coming in for MOTs in May 2018.
Not so good parts – all so minor that most wouldn't mention them, but in the interest of transparency:
- The driver side front arch is rusting. This is a bolt on panel costing around £50 on ebay, I simply haven't got round to replacing yet.
- 1x small dent below the left rear passenger side light - pictured
- 2x small chips in the windscreen
- Parking sensors are a bit tempermental - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. (All the sensors work, the control unit works, so I assume there is just a loose wire somewhere.)
- Slight rattle from exhaust heat shield.
These are all the issues I know if on the vehicle, and are minor niggles - hence I haven't got round to sorting them yet.
I would swap for a medium size van. (LDV Maxus SWB/ VW t4/ Toyota Hiace etc either as an empty shell, or a camper/ day van conversion)
I've put a lot of hours, labour and parts into the car and will really miss it. Invoices since I bought it alone are comfortably more than the car is for sale for, however with a lot of trips/ weekends away approaching, the better half and I have decided that a van is more suited to our requirements. The BMW is a pleasure to drive (I've had 3 e46s now and loved each one), and unlike most examples from this era appearing for sale, has not been drifted, raced, badly modified etc. All work done has been with reliability and longevity in mind - the mpg figures being testament to the cars condition. The future owner is buying a very solid vehicle, with most wear and tear items replaced, which will likely see the car through to the end of its life. The 320D engine of this era regularly sees well over 200k miles.
Bike racks and roof bars not included.
