The Dandy's Desperate Dan for 1955 was published in the autumn of 1954 and was the first of only five Desperate Dan annuals. The front-cover featured Dan's face in the middle, surrounded, clockwise, by four pictures of him involved in desperate acts: bending a gas powered lamppost so a man can light his cigarette, shaving with a scythe, sat down to eat an enormous cow pie, and, remaining unhurt as a car crumples into him.
